When you receive a credit card summons, or rather a summons from a credit card company or a collection agency letting you know that a lawsuit has been filed against, there are 3 basic things you can do.

1. Settle your lawsuit – you may use a mediator, an attorney or even attempt to negotiate a resolution yourself. The idea is to come up with a repayment plan or a lump-sum agreement to resolve your debt and hence stop the suit. Regardless, you should still file an answer to your civil suit in order to prevent a default judgment.

2. Appear in court – If you feel that you must present your case to the judge and throw the case on the mercy of the court, then you will want to consult an attorney or consider representing yourself. In this case you must file an answer to the lawsuit in order to secure your court date and avoid a default judgment.

3. File bankruptcy – although we do not condone this method, it is one which may be available to you. We strongly suggest using this only as your last reserve. Try to take care of the suit in any other way possible before filing bankruptcy. If you do decide to file bankruptcy, please consult an attorney – several, and get as much information as you need. Be sure to be aware of the court default date and try to retain a lawyer prior to it. Otherwise, simply file an answer in order to buy your self a little more time and make a fully informed decision.

There are many other options in between the three presented, but this are the basic things you can do. Just remember to use your best judgment and consult an attorney whenever you feel the need to. Whether it is a credit card summons or a basic civil suit, there are always options.

When you need a lawsuit answer, you need to file a court response. All of the information you need to complete a response is on your court summons. The court case, the court location and the court type; plaintiff information and what you are being sued for. The important part to remember is that if you need to get some extra information, you can always call the court.

The clerks may not be able to give you any legal advice, but what they can do is at least tell you what you need in order to answer your suit. Most of them are very polite, especially when you treat them with respect. A civil suit answer is a pretty complex thing, but it doesn’t have to be. Just remember to follow directions and know that asking for help is definitely allowed.

Here is another question, do I need to use a professional tax preparation service in order to file my returns? Well, the short answer to both of these questions is no. However, a lot of times we choose to use professional services for various reasons. Be it convenience, assurance or anything else in between.

There are plenty of companies which provide platforms for DIY (do-it-yourself) help and plenty of professionals who will take care of it for you. So it comes down to your level of comfort. When you need to file lawsuit answer for maybe a credit card summons you have choices. Mainly three choices; hire a professional, dig up the civil suit answer information yourself, or use a DIY service.

Whatever you choose, be sure that you take care of your summons in a timely fashion.
